Professional Training

The Swiss clarinetist Rita Karin Meier studied in the Zurich "Konservatorium" with Hansjürg Leuthold; in the "Musikakademie Basel" with Hans Rudolf Stalder; in Hannover with Hans Deinzer and in the "Musikhochschule Hanns Eisler Berlin" with Karl Leister.

She has completed her studies with a range of diplomas; orchestral, concert, soloist and pedagogical.

She was a member of the "Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra" and of the Vienna "Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra".

While still a student, she won the Solo Clarinet position in the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra.

Since 1994 she has held the position of "Solo Clarinetist" at the Zurich Opera House's "Philharmonia Zurich" (formerly the "Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House")

Prizes:

She won several national and international prizes such as:

-"Hegar Studienpreis" (of the Zurich "Konservatorium")

-"Studienpreis" of the "Ernst Göhner Stiftung and the Migros-Genossenschaftsbund"

-Second prize in the Riddes (CH) "Concours National" 1991

-First prize in the UBS-Competition "Förderung junger Musiker" 1993

-Third prize in the soloist category of the "Concours B.A.T." 1993 (Modern Chamber Music)

-First prize in the Bucharest International Music Competition "Jeunesses Musicales" 1996.

Teaching:

Since 2008 Rita Karin Meier has taught at the "Kantonsschule Enge", the "Kantonsschule Freudenberg" and the "Liceo Artistico" in Zurich. She has earned a master's degree in "Music Pedagogy" in the Zurich University of the Arts. She finished it with distinction and received the "W.& B. Alter-Preis" for music pedagogy. She is a guest teacher in the Basel "Hochschule für Musik" 

She regularly receives invitations to serve as a judge member in competitions or as an examiner for a range of exams.

Her interest in historical clarinets has led her to perform since 2008 with the "La Scintilla" Orchestra of which she is a permanent member.
